Decongestive Lymphedema/Lipedema therapy (DLT)

Vodder Manuel Lymphatic treatments can be used for numerous conditions. We treat not only Lymphedema or Lipedema but also relaxation and detox treatment.

• Usually, manual lymphatic drainage is applied toward the specific direction of the lymph node, followed by bandage(s) or compression garments if required. Those two often go hand in hand and are an essential part of this therapy. The compression garments are not only giving you extra support and comfort but are also on-going treatments on their own.

• Bandages can be ordered by prescription if you are diagnosed by the GP or be purchased/ through a private insurance by the patient which will be explained comprehensively on your first visit.

• Depending on the conditions, a course of treatments is highly recommended for a successful result.

Primary and Secondary lymphedema:

Primary lymphedema means that it is congenital, and not curable but can be managed and the patient can live a reasonably good life.

• Secondary lymphedema results from surgery or is acquired at some point. Some conditions are very serious such as Cellulitis, cancer related oedema, or after cosmetic surgeries.

About Lipoedema:

• A chronic disorder of the connective and fat tissues and mainly affects women. But Some GPs may not be familiar with this condition.

• MLD and compression garments can help to reduce pain and discomfort.

Vein issues:

• Venous veins can cause serious oedema problems and called Lymphovenous oedema

• Vein disease, damage to valve or chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) are some of the causes.

• Varicose veins and spider veins can cause a mild oedema to deep pitting depending on the severities which are the sign of CVI though many people may not realise why they are suffering.

• MLD and compression garments can be very helpful.

The Lymphatic system is a very important function in our body. Although some more serious conditions are required regular and persistent maintenances such as self-lymphatic drainage, skin care, compression garments, moderate exercises, and appropriate diet, those will help to alleviate the conditions and many people with those difficult conditions are able to live enjoyable lives. Manuel lymphatic Drainage (MLD) offers versatile treatments for numerous conditions, such as sinusitis, ME and Fibromyalgia. I combine MLD with other therapies such as scar work, myofascial techniques, bone work or craniosacral therapy to improve the condition.

Also MLD is a highly relaxing manual therapy, which lowers the tone of sympathetic nerves system and increases the blood circulation, it is a very effective treatment for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome or when you are very stressed and needing to relax your body and mind.

Last but not least, MLD can be used for a part of the detox therapy, flushing out all the unnecessary immune cells and unwanted debris and wastes, which are accumulated in the body and to clear out the lymph nodes to renew their functions again. Deep Oscillation Therapy

DEEP OSCILLATION®, as opposed to externally applied, mechanical forms of massage therapy (e.g. vibration acting on the skin surface), works through the entire tissue layers, including the connective tissue, to a depth of 8 cm (Solangel Hernandez Tapanes, MD, MSc, 2010)).

DEEP OSCILLATION® is a non-invasive, non-traumatic treatment which is very well received by patients. Because of its gentle application, it is a unique treatment for acute and chronic injury and day one post-operative. Clinically proven effects include significant pain reduction, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, detoxification, oedema reduction, haematoma reduction and support of the wound healing process. Unlike other treatments, Deep Oscillation can be applied over

metal pins and plates. This can be applied in conjunction with any other therapy.

Enhanced Recovery from Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery

In contrast to externally applied, mechanical forms of therapy, (e.g. vibration), the therapy effect of DEEP OSCILLATION® takes place in the tissue itself and works through the entire depth of the tissue layers (skin, connective tissue, subcutaneous fat, muscles, blood and lymph vessels) to a depth of 8 cm.

DEEP OSCILLATION® can be applied from the first day post operative which means patients can rehabilitate in a far quicker timescale than has previously been possible. Bruising, swelling and pain reduce as the daily treatment works on shuffling and transporting the excess inflammatory matter (in evidence after surgery) to the lymph system for removal. What happens in treatment?

For treatment the client holds a titanium bar; the therapist wears thin vinyl gloves and an electrode is attached to their arm. Both the electrode and the bar are connected to the machine. Alternatively, a special applicator can be used which also enables post operation self- treatment. Deep Oscillation can be applied in any external location: face (including over eyelids), breasts, arms, legs, buttocks, abdomen, etc.

Advanced Clinical Massage

Advanced Clinical massage is the combinations of different modalities, mostly based on fascial work:

• Fascia and myofascial techniques

• Facial fascial manipulations

• Scar/ bone work

Manuel Lymphatic Drainage techniques and CranioSacral therapy also include the parts of advanced clinical massage.

Fascia and myofascial techniques

Most of my treatments are based on fascia techniques. Fascia is found everywhere in the body and is a connective tissue which creates a structural continuity and function. Fascia is closely linked to our physical as well as mental health. It is just like the DNA of human cells and extremely intelligent. Manipulating fascia has profound benefits as well as inducing deep relaxation.

Fascia facial manipulations

This was a part of my dissertation project at my BTEC 6 and received a distinction. The research topic was to check if a facial massage was effective for rejuvenating facial appearance for over 65 year olds and if the massage was effective for mental well-being. The results were both positive. It can influence the rejuvenation of facial skin and mental well-being. Facial skin is, in fact, extremely vulnerable to external influences such as pollutions and smoking. Fascia facial encourages metabolism to improve and repair the skin. Also it has positive effects in clearing your mind and renewing your energy levels. Six treatments are recommended to see the effect.

Sharon Wheeler’s bone work

Sharon Wheeler is a practitioner of Structural Integration, Rolfing Institute and pioneered this bone work. She believes that bone changes occur when precise pressures are placed on it them. There is a fascia sheath over the bone to protect and provide nourishment for the bone but through accidents and other things, the bones can get stuck to each other. The adhesions can release the stuck bones and the changes are profound and lasting. I have experienced phenomenal and unexpected changes in people’s lives through this treatment.

Sharon Wheeler’s Scar Work

This work was also founded by Sharon Wheeler. It reduces adhesions, restrictions and improves the scar appearance, softening and flattening the tissues. It again uses fascia techniques to improve the wound healing process. It is very gentle and soothes the nervous, reducing irritations and calming the skin. Musculo-skeletal mobilities and organ functions will improve accordingly. Any surgery scars such as C-sections, Knee and hip replacement, or breast cancer surgery can benefit from the treatment.

Upledger CranioSacral Therapy

C raniosacral therapy was founded by J Upledger. This is a gentle and hands-on treatment treating restrictions on all the bones of the skull, spine, sacrum and pelvis, which is based on craniosacral rhythm. The rhythm is created by a fluid produced in the brain, circulated between the brain and the sacrum and absorbed back into the body to maintain a good relationship between the brain and nervous system. The therapist respects and encourages the client’s own healing power for the optimum health of the rhythm. It is very effective on the immune system, the endocrine system and nervous systems such as auto-immune conditions, cerebral palsy and menstrual problems, chronic pain and fatigue conditions. But this treatment can go beyond the physical level and uncover your own soul truth.

Upledger’s mouthwork

This mouth work is very unique to J Upledger craniosacral therapy and treats the bones though the hard palate to loosen the articulations of the mouth and to balance the hormone system: pituitary and pineal glands. The effect of this treatment is profound, especially for temporomandibular joint problems such as grinding teeth and any restrictions when opening your mouth. This can be added to any other treatment.

Visceral and Neural manipulation

Visceral and Neural manipulations were developed by Jean-Pierre Barral who is still working and teaching actively.

Visceral contents and structures are very complex and delicate as many organs co-exist in such a restricted space within many chemical constituents, supported by connective tissues. All the organs have inherent tissue motions and keeping these physiologic motions is very important for their healthy performance. But these organs are extremly vulnerable and easily inflamed due to direct trauma, diet, environmental toxins and emotional stress, which lead to the disruption of healthy functions. The treatment consists of gentle yet specific manual forces to encourage normal tone. It is very simple but effective.

Barral neural manipulation has two techniques: direct and indirect. We identify the specific nerve which is restricted, and stretch directly and yet gently; or we move distant limbs to stretch it indirectly. It is extremly effective and the usual massage techniques won’t be able to treat in such a specific manner on intricate and delicate structures .

This is conjunction with other body treatments such as clinical massage.
